Ask Powertech to stop opposing environmental protections on uranium mining (copy)
A Canadian-based company, Powertech Uranium, is proposing
the Centennial Mine, an injection or “in-situ” uranium mining operation that
would deliberately pump and contaminate the local aquifer with chemicals
designed to force or “leach” out uranium and toxic heavy metals from
underground. Injection uranium mining projects regularly increase radioactive
and toxic chemicals, such as arsenic, selenium, radium, uranium, molybdenum,
and vanadium into groundwater. These pollutants are known to harm human health,
wildlife, livestock and agriculture.
Powertech is opposing sensible protections for our
environment and for public health. Tell Powertech to drop their opposition and
support this no-nonsense bill.
Learn More: Protect Colorado's Wilderness
We helped protect more than 4 million acres of Colorado's most pristine forests from logging, mining and new roads, despite Bush administration attempts to open these lands to industry. Now we're advocating the Colorado Wilderness Act, which will preserve our state’s treasures such as the Roan Plateau, Vermillion Basin and Brown’s Canyon. Read more about our preservation work here.
