On eve of the elections, Environment Colorado announces endorsements in federal races

Environment Colorado

Denver—With critical environmental issues at stake in this November’s elections, and with only a week left for Coloradans to help choose a cleaner and healthier path for the country, Environment Colorado announced its endorsements of a slate of congressional candidates.

Environment Colorado, a statewide environmental organization with over 40,000 members and activists, endorsed Sen. Michael Bennet and U.S. Reps. Betsy Markey, Ed Perlmutter, and Diana DeGette as the right choices for the environment. The organization cited their records on dealing with our energy crisis, ending America’s dependence on oil, and curbing global warming pollution.

According to Environment Colorado, Bennet, Markey, Perlmutter, and DeGette voted for policies to create over 28,000 clean energy jobs in Colorado alone.

“These candidates have been consistent and effective leaders, producing real results that are moving Colorado toward energy independence, creating clean energy jobs and cracking down on dangerous carbon pollution,” said Pam Kiely, program director for Environment Colorado. “Today, Coloradans are hard at work manufacturing solar energy systems and building wind farms.  Consumers and businesses are saving money and pollution is being reduced because of policies they have helped put in place.”

Environment Colorado pointed to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act as one of the major accomplishments in accelerating the growth of clean energy jobs to Colorado, including attracting new employers such as Abound Solar and Abengoa Solar.

“While campaign cash from Big Oil and the polluter lobby is drowning our political system, Bennet, Markey, Polis, and DeGette have consistently stood up to powerful interests and fought for our parks, the quality of our air and water and the promise of a clean energy economy,” said Kiely.

Environment Colorado is mobilizing its members to support these candidates in next week’s elections, knocking on over 100,000 doors to help move our country towards a cleaner, healthier future.
