Environment Colorado helped pass the Land & Water Stewardship Act in 2010, setting strong standards to protect groundwater and requiring mining companies to create environmental plans to minimize the impact of uranium mining on our wild lands.

You’re building support to save the bees.

Millions of bees are dying off, with alarming consequences for our environment and our food supply. In 2015, we mobilized grassroots support for protecting these vital pollinators. Thanks to your support, our national team and a coalition of beekeepers, farmers and others delivered more than 4 million petitions calling on the Obama administration to declare a ban on neonicotinoids, a class of bee-killing pesticides.

Reducing the impact of oil and gas drilling

We convinced the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to adopt strong regulations to protect our water, wildlife and land from the threats of drilling, including prohibiting drill rigs within 300 feet of drinking water sources.

Result

We helped win the single biggest action our country has ever taken on climate

Under the newly announced Clean Power Plan, gas and coal power plants will pollute 32 percent less and clean energy sources such as wind and solar will meet much more of the nation’s electricity needs. Environment America is proud of the role we’ve played to galvanize public support for this historic plan. With continued commitment from President Obama and state leaders, and strong backing from the American people, this will mark a giant shift toward the 100 percent clean energy reality that the climate crisis demands and future generations deserve.

Improving Metro Denver transit

Environmentally friendly transit options, such as light rail, are expanding for Denver area commuters, following the 2004 approval of the Environment Colorado-supported FasTracks initiative.
